Martin Jetpack

We’ve all imagined ourselves flying, whether in random waking thoughts or in the subconscious world of dreams. Regardless, those fleeting yearnings for aerial independence have always been dispelled by the reality of our inherent shortcomings as terrestrial beings—that is, until now. The Martin Jetpack (available from Martin Aircraft Company for approximately $100,000) represents a design coup by the New Zealand-based Martin Aircraft Company, whose vision, perseverance and engineering prowess fueled the realization of this long-standing aerospace industry goal. Constructed out of a carbon fiber composite, the Martin Jetpack is powered by a specially designed 2 liter V4 two-stroke aircraft engine rated at 200hp and capable of reaching a top speed of 63 mph, allowing up to a 31.5 mile range laterally, and up to 8,000 ft vertically. The Martin Jetpack also features an internal roll cage to provide impact protection and a ballistic parachute in the event of engine failure. And while the Martin Jetpack doesn’t require an FAA-recognized pilot’s license, Martin Aircraft does require a special training program that all owners are required to pass. If you’re one of the special few who get the unique opportunity to experience the Martin Jetpack, gaining mastery of the sky will be something you can finally check off the bucket list.
