Some acts are virtually impossible to follow. So when Mercedes-Benz reinterpreted the iconic 300 SL with an updated model, we were curious to see how it was going to stack up against the original. Simply put, we were left speechless. The new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG (price TBA) is one of the most stunningly gorgeous automobiles we’ve ever seen. With an aluminum space frame body housing an AMG 6.3 liter, V8 engine putting out 571 hp, the SLS AMG is capable of going from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, while being electronically limited to a top speed of 197 mph. And with stylistic elements from the inimitable gullwing doors to the cockpit-like interior, the classic purity of the original 300 SL’s spirit is retained, while its low-slung and aggressive aesthetic, evocative of sleek fighter jets, propels the SLS AMG into the rarefied air of contemporary super sports cars.
