If you’ve ever wondered how your dog spends the day when you’re busy at work (or just feel like checking to make sure you turned off the stove before you left the house), the Avaak Vue (available at Avaak starting from $200) is the personal video network that lets you to access up to 5o wireless video cameras from any web browser of flash-enabled mobile device.  Each battery operated camera is easily set up anywhere you like (using peel and stick camera mounts) and transmits wireless video to a gateway device that’s connected to your internet router.  You can view, record and share video and still shots from your secure video network which includes a personal account with 2GB of storage space (which should be more than enough to stockpile plenty of snapshots of the shenanigans that take place while you’re away).

Looking more like a cross between the Mars Lander and ED-209 from RoboCop than a computer accessory, the Rovio Mobile Webcam by WowWee (available at Sears for $279) provides you with remote video and audio access to your home from anywhere in the world using any web-enabled device (i.e. PC, Mac, cellphone, etc).  A head-mounted movable VGA camera with a built-in LED light enables low light vision while you navigate the Rovio around on its three omni-directional wheels.  A speaker and microphone allows for two way communication and with one click of a button, you can send the Rovio back to its docking station to recharge before its next foray into the desolate landscape of your home.

The Elecom M-SN1UL Scope Node Laser Sensor Mouse (available at AudioCubes for $90) distinguishes itself from other mice by moving the position of the optical sensor from the middle of the mouse to just in between where your thumb and index finger are when placed on the mouse.  With a 1600dpi resolution, the optical sensor is more precise and the overall effect is similar to holding a pen, with the mouse’s optical sensor aligned with where the tip of the pen would be in hand.  The mouse comes in three colors (editor’s choice: black) and is only available from select Japanese online retailers.

Moixa USBCELL AA Batteries (available at USBCELL for $18) are an environmentally friendly alternative to regular alkaline batteries, billions of which are thrown away into landfills each year.  The NiMH AA batteries can be reused hundreds of times after a simple charge by plugging them into any available USB port without the use of cables or adaptors.  We’ll be keeping a close eye on the USBCELL line as future products will include AAA, 9V and cell phone batteries as well.

The fine line between PC and TV just got a little more blurred with the beta launch of Hulu Desktop.  Available for PC and Mac, Hulu Desktop runs directly on your desktop without the use a web browser or account setup (although you can personalize the desktop by linking it to your Hulu account).  Simply download and start scanning through Hulu’s lineup of TV shows and movies in alphabetical order, by network or studio, or by Hulu Channel.  You can also navigate through the desktop using both Apple and Windows Media Center remotes.  Either way, it just got a little easier for you to take that next important devolutionary step towards ultimate slacker status.
