Kartell Panier Table

Whether you stack it (up to four high), fill it with magazines and books, or just let it function as a low end table, the Kartell Panier Table (available at the MoMA Store for $129) provides multi-purpose functionality combined with a bit of design levity.  Made of batch-dyed polycarbonate and with a removable lid, the Panier Table can be used as both a storage unit and furniture accent piece and its availability in four select colors (editor’s choice: dark gray) only adds to its translucent charm.

Shadow Chair by Duffy London

A chair that manages to stand on just two legs, albeit with the assistance of its very own “shadow,” is a chair worth getting to know (and sitting in as well).  The Shadow Chair by Duffy London (available at Duffy London for approximately $1,230) uses an integrated steel base (i.e. shadow) which is built into its frame, to support the Shadow Chair while perpetuating the illusion of its independence from a couple of extra legs.  Available in a number of finishes and constructed from wood sourced from managed forests and other controlled sources, the Shadow Chair is both a sustainable and stylish seating option, however you may look at it.

LUCKY BEAM Large Bench by The Katch Design Company

LUCKY BEAM Large Bench by The Katch Design Company

Inspired by the the I-beams found on New York City subway platforms, the LUCKY BEAM Large Bench by The Katch Design Company (available at The Katch Design Company for $2,600) reconfirms our affinity for this iconic shape, especially when realized in the form of furniture.  Reclaimed or sustainable wood slabs rest on top of powder-coated aluminum plate beams that come in an array of colors ranging from jet black to day-glo pink.  The juxtaposition of the grained wood against these glossy and colorful metal finishes adds a playful element to a clean, modern design.  And for those interested in other LUCKY BEAM options, the full line of benches extends to both smaller and outdoor versions, ensuring there’s at least one LUCKY BEAM that will end up suiting (and seating) you just fine.

COCO Chair by Loll

Designed for versatility, the COCO Chair by Loll (available at Loll for $350) is as much at home on your outdoor deck as it is inside the house (or wherever you think it belongs).  Made from 160 recycled milk jugs, the COCO Chair is a year-round weatherproof lounger that you can leave outside without any thought to loss of color or the need for refinishing.  And with its contoured slats, compact design, and availability in six colors, the COCO is also the ideal indoor side chair.  Wherever it goes, there’s no doubt it will look the part with modern style and an eco-friendly disposition.

Birillo Bar Stool by Joe Colombo

Birillo Bar Stool by Joe Colombo

When something you’ve designed finds its way into the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, it’s relatively safe to say that you’ve produced a work of art.  The Birillo Bar Stool by Joe Colombo (available at Moss for $2,945) happens to enjoy that notable distinction and reaffirms that as one of Italy’s most renowned product and furniture designers, Joe Colombo was a visionary.  The Birillo Bar Stool was considered avant-garde in the 1960s, and even in 2009, it remains gorgeously and unfalteringly compelling.  Fabricated out of stainless steel, fiberglass and leather, the Birillo Bar Stool possesses the unique quality of being synchronously retro and modern—an exceptional combination that we can’t help but obsess over and one that conspicuously sets this bar stool apart from its peers.

Go Love Rocker by Loll

Go Love Rocker by Loll

The Go Love Rocker by Loll (available at Loll for $630) is more than just a fresh interpretation of a love seat (one that happens to rock, literally).  It’s also an example of how various disparate sourcing and design elements can beautifully converge into one unique product.  Made out of 100% superior grade recycled high density polyethylene (i.e. 720 recycled milk jugs), the Go Love Rocker is designed with impeccable quality, durability and environmental sustainability in mind.  Whether it’s the fact that Loll uses the same materials and fabrication methods as skatepark contractor, TrueRide, supports carbon offset projects, as well as ships packages using recycled cardboard boxes and padding, it’s obvious that Loll provides thoughtfully designed pieces of outdoor furniture that not only resonate from a modern aesthetic perspective, but also from an environmentally conscious one as well.

Kidrobot ‘Stache Labbit Stool

Kidrobot Stache Labbit Stool

Handlebar mustaches (as much as we wish we could pull one off ourselves) just make us laugh…at least when they’re on 30” long fiberglass stools with distinctively rabbit-like features.  The Kidrobot ‘Stache Labbit Stool (available at Kidrobot for $1,250) is one of our favorite limited edition pieces by renowned graphic artist, Frank Kozik.  Exhibiting a playful duality of purpose, the ‘Stache Labbit Stool is more than just a piece of furniture infused with humor and wit, it’s also an incomparably designed piece of art, embodying the exquisitely random brilliance we’ve come to love and expect from Kidrobot and its collaborative community of talented artists.

Screw Table by Tom Dixon

Screw Table by Tom Dixon

British lighting and furniture design firm, Tom Dixon, has incorporated the element of scalability in the Screw Table (advance orders at Unicahome starting at $1,260).  Sitting on a cast iron tripod base that has a solid heft, the circular white marble top spins on an aluminum thread, varying the height of the table as you turn it.  Available in both a small and large size, the Screw Table has a wonderfully understated but nonetheless high-end industrial aesthetic that we absolutely love.

Zaide Coffee Table by Ali Sandifer

Zaide Coffee Table by Ali Sandifer

The Zaide Coffee Table by Ali Sandifer (available at nestliving for $2,400) displays a direct and unadorned approach to design that we find tremendously appealing.  In particular, we love the organic characteristics of the naturally finished wood as well as the clean and striking design of the three-legged wishbone base.  The net visual effect is compelling, yet simple and well balanced.  Made from domestic woods sourced from sustainable forests, the Zaide Coffee Table is also finished with natural oils and water-based sealants instead of potentially toxic veneers or stains.

Leif.designpark 030 Lin Bench

mens modern furniture Leif.designpark 030 Lin Bench

Upholstered in either cotton or wool, the Leif.designpark 030 Lin Bench (available at mixture from $1,725 – $1,945) has a design sensibility that exudes a subtle playfulness—one that reminds us just a bit of the chalkboard erasers from our childhood.  The backrest and seat flow together as the bench itself softly floats on top of a solid wood leg frame.  One of the many outstanding pieces by Leif.designpark, a design team based in Japan, the 030 Lin Bench is the perfect bench in which to find quiet afternoon solace with a book in hand in a sunny corner of your room.
