Whether you stack it (up to four high), fill it with magazines and books, or just let it function as a low end table, the Kartell Panier Table (available at the MoMA Store for $129) provides multi-purpose functionality combined with a bit of design levity. Made of batch-dyed polycarbonate and with a removable lid, the Panier Table can be used as both a storage unit and furniture accent piece and its availability in four select colors (editor’s choice: dark gray) only adds to its translucent charm.

British lighting and furniture design firm, Tom Dixon, has incorporated the element of scalability in the Screw Table (advance orders at Unicahome starting at $1,260). Sitting on a cast iron tripod base that has a solid heft, the circular white marble top spins on an aluminum thread, varying the height of the table as you turn it. Available in both a small and large size, the Screw Table has a wonderfully understated but nonetheless high-end industrial aesthetic that we absolutely love.

The Zaide Coffee Table by Ali Sandifer (available at nestliving for $2,400) displays a direct and unadorned approach to design that we find tremendously appealing. In particular, we love the organic characteristics of the naturally finished wood as well as the clean and striking design of the three-legged wishbone base. The net visual effect is compelling, yet simple and well balanced. Made from domestic woods sourced from sustainable forests, the Zaide Coffee Table is also finished with natural oils and water-based sealants instead of potentially toxic veneers or stains.

Whereas the I-beams used in the construction industry are often made of structural steel, the 345 I-Beam Side Table by Matthew Hilton (available at De La Espada from $1,725 – $1,795) is constructed out of American white oak or American black walnut, imbuing this side table with a softness and organic characteristic suggestive of both simplicity and strength. Equally functional as a side table or stool, the 345 I-Beam Side Table may just be the ideal accent table you’ve needed to complete your soon to be well-appointed living space.

You probably won’t be placing any coffee mugs on this coffee table (at least not without a good coaster underneath). With an MDF structure, mirrored surfaces, a hidden drawer and a Charlie Brown-esque zig-zap stripe, Ilse Crawford’s The Other Coffee Table (available at Moss for $7,025) is appropriately named as it’s certainly not your average coffee table. A former magazine editor turned product designer, Ilse Crawford injects her own aesthetic into a piece that conveys a retro whimsy most coffee tables could never manage to deliver. Now if we can only find a mug worthy of setting on the table…
