Our fanaticism over anything PVD-coated continues with the Porsche Design P’3700 Swiss Army Knife (available at Wenger for $475) and it does anything but disappoint. The handle and all seven implements are seamlessly coated in black PVD, giving the P’3700 an understated “cloak and dagger” aesthetic we can appreciate. Among the implements, which include (but are not limited to) a large blade, corkscrew and can opener, we find the patented locking screwdriver and springless scissors with a serrated, self-sharpening design especially appealing just based on their practicality. And weighing just 3.8 oz with a 3.25″ length, the P’3700 is probably the most lightweight, compact and affordable Porsche-designed item you’ll likely be able to afford as well as fit into your pocket for the foreseeable future.

Nobody ever expects to find themselves unable to get out of their car after an accident (or as it rapidly sinks into a body of water), but every year, these things do happen. However unlikely this scenario may be, it never hurts to be prepared just in case the unforeseen somehow manages to take place. The Swiss+Tech BodyGard 7-in-1 Emergency Tool (available at Swiss+Tech starting from $30) weighs in at just a paltry 1.5 oz, but is superbly equipped to address your survival needs with a spring-loaded glass breaker, safety-blade seat belt cutter, sonic alarm, emergency distress light, bright-white LED flashlight, thermometer and digital tire pressure gauge. Durably constructed, incredibly compact and portable (as it’s attachable to a rear view mirror, sun visor and key chain), the BodyGard 7-in-1 Emergency Tool may just be the most important after-market accessory your car ever needs.

Here’s the story of two former fashion industry executives, Maria Barnes and Raili Clasen, college best friends who were on a trip somewhere south of the border, where they unearthed an assortment of brightly colored household products in an old hardware store and then later found themselves discussing their findings over a few margaritas. This experience became the catalyst for inspiration, eventually resulting in the founding of Alice Supply Co., a company dedicated to breathing a little color into daily household objects. It’s only fitting that their manifesto should recognize “that a toolbox has feelings, too,” which brings us to the Alice Supply Co. Toolbox (available at Alice Supply Co. from $45 – $60). With an array of color options (editor’s choice: orange with camo green handle), this 20” metal toolbox serves as a brightly hued alternative to the humdrum functional toolboxes found elsewhere. In fact, this may be one of the few toolboxes worth placing somewhere out in the open for all to admire rather than languishing in the back of a storage closet.

For men that travel light but demand more from their keychain than just carrying keys, there’s the Leatherman Squirt P4 Keychain Multi-Tool (available at REI for $40). Coming in a range of colors (editor’s choice: Glacier Blue), with options including spring-action needle-nose pliers, wire cutters, and a clip point knife, this is not just your average keychain. And at just 2.25 inches (closed) and a paltry 2 oz, you’ll hardly feel it’s in the way. And just in case your forays into wire cutting go awry while braving the concrete jungle, there’s a more than generous 25 year warranty to cover your bungling ass.
